US concerned by scope of violence against Gaza civilians — vice-president

The United States has been insisting that Israel reduce its combat operations zone in the south of the Gaza Strip and ensure the protection of civilian shelters, US Vice President Kamala Harris said

DUBAI, December 2. /TASS/. The administration of US President Joe Biden is concerned by the scope of violence against the civilian population of the Gaza Strip, US Vice President Kamala Harris said on Saturday.

"The United States is unequivocal: International humanitarian law must be respected. Too many innocent Palestinians have been killed," she told reporters of the sidelines of the COP28 climate change summit in Dubai. "Frankly, the scale of civilian suffering, and the images and videos coming from Gaza are devastating."

In her words, the United States has been insisting that Israel reduce its combat operations zone in the south of the Gaza Strip and ensure the protection of civilian shelters.

"As Israel pursues its military objectives in Gaza, we believe Israel must do more to protect innocent civilians," the US vice president added.

She added that during her meeting with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, she reaffirmed that the US administration opposes forced movement of Palestinians, as well occupation, siege or blockade of the Gaza Strip.
