Russia stands shoulder to shoulder with China to defend truth about WWII — ambassador

The commemorative event started at the Jintai Art Museum with the anthems of Russia and China being sung by Russian and Chinese schoolchildren

BEIJING, February 15. /TASS/. Russia and China have joined efforts to protect the historical truth about World War Two and will not allow its facts to be distorted, Russian Ambassador to China Igor Morgulov said on Wednesday in Beijing at an event commemorating Russian soldiers who died performing their duty outside their home country.

"Now that some countries would like to rewrite world history, when more and more aggressive attempts are being made to revive Nazism and glorify Nazis, militarists and their accomplices, it is crucial to preserve the memory of those who fought to defend the world from fascism and militarism and who sacrificed their lives in that fight," Morgulov said.

"Russia and China are standing shoulder to shoulder to protect the historical truth about World War Two and will not allow revision of its results," he added.

The commemorative event started at the Jintai Art Museum with the anthems of Russia and China being sung by Russian and Chinese schoolchildren. Then Russian Ambassador Igor Morgulov and Belarusian Ambassador to China Yury Senko laid flowers at the Soviet Falcon monument dedicated to a Soviet volunteer pilot who fought for the Chinese people against Japanese invaders during World War II.

Soviet volunteers

Soviet volunteer pilots arrived in China in late 1937 to help the Chinese in their fight against Japanese invaders.

By February 1939, a total of 3,600 Soviet military specialists were already stationed in the country and fought against the Japanese invaders. Among them were about 2,500 pilots and technicians. Fourteen of them were honored with the Hero of the Soviet Union award.

Monuments were erected across China as memorials to those Soviet pilots who took part in the Chinese people’s War of Resistance against Japanese aggression and were killed in the line of international military duty.
