Minsk slams PACE resolution on Ukraine as biased

According to Belarusian deputies, the document "completely distorts the essence of the conflict in Ukraine"

MINSK, February 15. /TASS/. The presidium of the Belarusian parliament’s upper chamber, the Council of the Republic, has strongly condemned a recent resolution on Ukraine by the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE).

The resolution, adopted in late January, calls to set up an international tribunal investigating actions of Russian and Belarusian authorities during the conflict in Ukraine.

"The Presidium of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus strongly condemns the adoption of PACE’s politically motivated resolution, headlined ‘Legal and human rights aspects of the Russian Federation's aggression against Ukraine’ and the inclusion of baseless accusations against Belarus into it," the presidium said in a statement on Tuesday.

According to Belarusian lawmakers, the document "totally distorts the essence of the conflict in Ukraine and disinforms the international community about roles of parties involved [in this conflict]."

The resolution also "shamefully sweeps under the rug the facts of endless supplies of heavy weaponry and lethal arms to the territory of Ukraine, carried out by the collective West, including weapons prohibited for use by relevant norms of the international law."

It also "contains no attempts to search for conflict settlement solutions and makes no call for stepping up political and diplomatic efforts for peace."

On March 15, 2022, Russia began the process of withdrawing from the Council of Europe. On June 11, laws signed by President Vladimir Putin were published on the non-execution in Russia of any resolutions the ECHR adopted after March 15, 2022 - from the moment Russia filed its statement it was leaving the Council of Europe.
