MOSCOW, February 3. /TASS/. Sri Lanka has completely stabilized its domestic political situation and is open for tourism, including from Russia, Sri Lanka’s Ambassador to Moscow Janitha Abeywickrema Liyanage told TASS on Friday.

"Now the country is totally stable and it is open to everybody, especially for tourists. You know the [greatest] number of tourists are from Russia, it is a significant one," she said at the Unique Russia art and industry exhibition, unveiled in Moscow to mark the 75th anniversary of Sri Lanka’s independence.

Covid restrictions on visitors have also been relaxed, the ambassador added.

The political situation in Sri Lanka escalated on July 9 when protesters stormed the official residences of the president and prime minister. More than 100 people were injured in the unrest.
