Chinese UAV’s flight near Taiwan reported by island’s defense ministry

In the past day, the defense agency registered four vessels of the Navy of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) and nine aircraft in the area near the island

HONG KONG /XIANGGANG/, November 28. /TASS/. A Chinese CH-4 armed reconnaissance drone approached Taiwan, the island’s Defense Ministry reported on Monday.

According to the Taiwanese top brass, the UAV crossed the so-called median line of the Taiwan Strait for some time during its maneuvers.

In the past day, the defense agency registered four vessels of the Navy of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) and nine aircraft in the area near the island.

Specifically, two Y-8 maritime patrol aircraft entered Taiwan’s air defense zone. In response, the Taiwanese military sent air patrols and radio alerts, and deployed missile defense systems.

In recent months, the PLA has regularly conducted such maneuvers. Tensions near the Taiwan Strait intensified after a visit to Taipei by US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi on August 2-3 that sparked fierce criticism from the Chinese authorities.

Taiwan, China’s largest island, has been governed by its own administration since 1949. Official Beijing considers Taiwan a province of the People’s Republic of China.
