Death penalty should be retained in Donbass, Duma speaker says

Those who give orders to fire at civilians and those who fulfill them deserve capital punishment, Vyacheslav Volodin underscored

MOSCOW, June 15. /TASS/. The death penalty should not be abolished in the Donetsk People’s Republic, especially in war time, the speaker of Russia’s State Duma lower house of parliament said on Wednesday.

"One legal norm in the DPR should be retained, especially in war time. I am referring to the death penalty," Vyacheslav Volodin said in a post on his Telegram channel.

Those who give orders to fire at civilians and those who fulfill them deserve capital punishment, he said. "Every day we witness the nationalist Kiev regime commit crimes against humanity by shelling residential areas, hospitals, maternity wards, kindergartens and schools. Elderly people, women and kids are being killed," he said.

They "must know, that they commit crimes, and the punishment will be severe." "The death penalty is the punishment those fascists deserve," Volodin said.

A parliamentary delegation from Donetsk visited the State Duma last week to discuss steps to harmonize legislations of the DPR and Russia, he added.
