SEOUL, May 23. /TASS/. South Korean President Yoon Seok-youl said he wouldn’t seek a return of US tactical nuclear weapons to the Korean Peninsula, according to his interview to CNN that was published on Monday.

The South Korean leader said that in the event of aggression against Seoul, the US is ready to provide assistance, including missile defense, and provide protection against a nuclear threat from the enemy. At the same time, Yoon Seok-youl ruled out the possibility of "redeployment of tactical nuclear weapons on the Korean Peninsula."

On Saturday, following their summit, US President Joe Biden and Yoon Seok-youl released a joint statement, which emphasized Washington's readiness to provide the ally with "enhanced deterrents," which implies US capabilities to protect partners from a nuclear threat.
