YEREVAN, May 7. /TASS/. Azerbaijan’s Armed Forces opened fire on the Armenian army positions in the eastern section of the border on Saturday, as well as on the Sotk gold mine, wounding one of its workers, Armenia’s Defense Ministry said in a statement.

"On May 7 at 1.50 p.m. (12.50 a.m. Moscow time), Azerbaijan’s Armed Forces opened fire on the military positions of the Armenian Armed Forces in the eastern section of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border, as well as on the Sotk gold mine, using various caliber firearms. As a result, one of the employees was wounded. His life is not in danger," the statement said.

The Armenian Defense Ministry added that "the fire was suppressed in retaliatory steps. As of 4.30 p.m. local time, the situation on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border is relatively stable."

GeoProMining Gold, the company with Russian capital that runs the Sotk mine, told the local portal 24news.am that the personnel had been evacuated after the shelling.
