Poland plans to completely abandon Russian coal in April or May — Prime Minister

According to the Polish government, coal from Australia, South Africa or Colombia will not be more expensive

WARSAW, March 30. /TASS/. The Polish authorities plan to completely abandon Russian coal imports in April or May, Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki told a press conference on Wednesday.

"At the Council of Ministers, we adopted a plan to phase out coal," he said, stressing that Warsaw is doing this despite the lack of consent from the entire EU.

"We are doing this contrary to the rules that exist there," he stressed.

According to Morawiecki, the plan must be approved by parliament and signed by the President. "April, at the latest, May will be the time of complete abandonment of Russian coal," the Prime Minister stated.

According to the Polish government, coal from Australia, South Africa or Colombia will not be more expensive.

"We will do everything so that this does not hit the wallets of the Poles, so that they do not pay more than before," Morawiecki assured.

The Polish Minister of Climate and Environment, Anna Moskwa, noted that the republic needs 8 million tonnes of coal.

"We know where and how to organize deliveries," she assured.
