Russia, China seek to comply with nuclear deal, Europe does not - Iran’s foreign minister

Javad Zarif noted that US President Joe Biden should remove not only the sanctions imposed the Islamic Republic but also the restrictions against Russian and Chinese companies and residents for contacts with the Iranian side

TEHRAN, February 21. /TASS/. Russia and China, unlike European countries, seek to fulfill their obligations under the Iran nuclear deal, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif stated on Press TV channel on Sunday.

"Some 120 Chinese residents and companies have been placed on sanctions lists (for contacts with the Iranian side). <...> Also the restrictions were imposed on a large number of Russian companies. It shows who is at least trying to fulfill their obligations and who is not," Zarif said.

Iran’s top diplomat noted that US President Joe Biden should remove not only the sanctions imposed the Islamic Republic but also the restrictions against Russian and Chinese companies and residents for contacts with the Iranian side.

The foreign minister made this statement amid reports on the US possible return to compliance with the nuclear deal officially known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) on Iran's nuclear program. Tehran insists on Washington’s full return to the agreement without any preconditions. However, the US informed that it would not be the first to take steps. Furthermore, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken proposed to expand the JCPOA to include the issues of regional policy and missile program of the Islamic Republic.
