France declares April 24 national day of Armenian genocide remembrance

The Armenian Genocide Remembrance Day is marked annually in Armenia on April 24

PARIS, February 6. /TASS/. French President Emmanuel Macron announced late on Tuesday that April 24 will be marked as the Armenian Genocide Remembrance Day in the country.

During an annual dinner organized the Coordinating Council of Armenian Organizations of France (CCAF), Macron said that "in the coming weeks, the national day of commemoration of the Armenian genocide will be held on April 24."

The Armenian Genocide Remembrance Day is marked annually in Armenia on April 24. On that day in 1915, deportations of Armenian intelligentsia began from Constantinople (Ottoman Empire). The term ‘Armenian Genocide’ is used to describe the mass deportation and killings of Armenians in the Ottoman empire during the First World War (1914-1918). France officially recognized the events as genocide on January 29, 2001.
