Forecasters warn of abnormal heat in Russia’s capital, Moscow Region in next two days

Forecasters of Russia’s Hydrometeorological Research Center are not going to extend the orange-level alert, or the penultimate level of weather danger, which they earlier announced in and around Moscow

MOSCOW, April 22. /TASS/. Forecasters have warned of extreme heat that will be observed in Moscow and the Moscow Region in the next two days, the Hydrometeorological Research Center of Russia told TASS.

"On April 23 and 24, abnormal hot weather with average daily air temperature will persist on the territory of the Moscow Region. It will be seven degrees Celsius (around 45 degrees Fahrenheit) or more above the climatic norm," the center said. The storm warning issued by meteorologists notes that similar weather conditions may be observed in the neighboring Tula, Ryazan, Kaluga, Ivanovo, and Vladimir Regions.

However, forecasters of Russia’s Hydrometeorological Research Center are not going to extend the orange-level alert, or the penultimate level of weather danger, which they earlier announced in and around Moscow. The alert will be valid until 9 p.m. Moscow time (6 p.m. GMT). On top of that, the yellow-level meteorological danger persists in the area due to an expected thunderstorm.

As of now, the air in the city has warmed up to 22.6 degrees Celsius (around 73 degrees Fahrenheit), said the main meteorological station, located on the territory of the VDNKh Exhibition Center in Moscow.

The maximum temperature in Moscow for the past 24 hours - 26.5 degrees Celsius (roughly 80 degrees Fahrenheit) - was recorded at the weather station near the Balchug Hotel in the Moscow center.
