Trust in presidential election hits historic high — VCIOM chief

Earlier, VCIOM reported on its website that 72% of participants trusted the results of the Russian presidential election

MOSCOW, March 19. /TASS/. The level of trust in the Russian presidential election among the Russian people has hit a 20-year high, Valery Fyodorov, director of the All-Russian Public Opinion Research Center (VCIOM), said.

"Usually, the bigger the margin of victory, the greater the doubt among people. The higher the voter turnout, the more political questions and accusations about how impossible these numbers are. We rightly expected such a situation, but our poll revealed the contrary. Trust is high," he said.

"Comparing current results to the polls of 2004, 2008, 2012 and 2018, we can see that the level of trust is currently at a historic high," he noted.

Earlier, VCIOM reported on its website that 72% of participants trusted the results of the Russian presidential election, while 13% did not. Meanwhile, 65% of respondents believe that the results are credible and demonstrate the true will of voters.

Four candidates ran in Russia’s first three-day presidential election on March 15-17, 2024, namely New People party nominee Vladislav Davankov; self-nominated candidate and incumbent President Vladimir Putin; Liberal Democratic Party of Russia (LDPR) nominee Leonid Slutsky; and Communist Party of the Russian Federation (CPRF) nominee Nikolay Kharitonov.
