Hainan will make Sanya’s Edge of the World Park free starting June 1

Sanya Vice Mayor Huang Xingyu said the measure should stimulate intensive development in Hainan

HAIKOU /China/, May 28. /TASS/. Popular with Chinese and foreign tourists, Edge of the World Park (Tanya Hyjiao) in Sanya on the southern coast of Hainan Island will become free from June 1. This was announced by the city administration.

Local authorities said that this measure will complement the introduction of free entry to the territory of two other major attractions of Sanya: the tropical forest Luhuitou Park ("Deer turning its head,)" from July 1, 2022, and the Daxiao Dongtian Scenic Area from October 1, 2022). Such innovations are said to be in line with Hainan's free trade port development strategy.

"The abolition of visitor fees for the Edge of the World tourist area is related to the gradual elimination of 'ticket barriers' for access to state-owned landscape parks," said Sanya Vice Mayor Huang Xingyu. "By doing so, the public's affluence and satisfaction will be improved."

The official said the measure should stimulate the intensive development of Hainan. This measure is expected to make Sanya more attractive for tourists, increasing the competitive advantages of the city in the international market. At the same time there are plans to improve the quality of service, introduce new tourist products, modernize the industry structure, increase the added value of goods and services offered by local companies.

"The Edge of the World Park is located in the southernmost part of the island and covers 16.4 square kilometers ( including 6 square kilometers of the adjacent water area). Its territory has many huge boulders, which are located both on land and in the water. According to official figures, last May, on the occasion of Worker's Day in China (April 29 to May 3), the park was visited by about 33,900 people, nine times more than during the same period in 2022, when the flow of tourists was negatively affected by the pandemic.
