NALCHIK, April 13. /TASS/. Attempts to introduce into the public consciousness the possibility of applying sharia law instead of secular laws have not stopped in the North Caucasus Federal District regions, Russian Security Council Nikolay Patrushev said Thursday.

"It is especially important to emphasize that attempts introduce into the public consciousness the possibility of applying Sharia norms instead of secular laws, displacing traditional Islam with its radical currents and forming new Salafist groups have not stopped," Patrushev said during a meeting on security in the federal district in Nalchik.

"At the same time, there is still disagreement among representatives of the religious community due to their own personal ambitions, the influence of foreign Islamic preachers and the fight for distribution of financial flows," he underscored.
