No appeal for pardon yet from mercenaries convicted in DPR — Donbass leader

Denis Pushilin noted that the convicted mercenaries have the right for a constitutional appeal of their verdict until July 9

MOSCOW, June 22. /TASS/. Foreign mercenaries from the UK and Morocco sentenced to death in the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) have not yet appealed for pardon, DPR head Denis Pushilin said on Wednesday.

"I did not receive such a request. It may be filed after the verdict is appealed or not, after this month elapses," he told the Soloviev Live TV channel.

The DPR head noted that the convicted mercenaries have the right for a constitutional appeal of their verdict until July 9.

He also emphasized that they are held in solitary cells, "the conditions are absolutely adequate." "Undoubtedly, there are no excesses and yet everything necessary is provided to them according to international norms," the official added.

Earlier, a court in the DPR handed capital punishment verdicts to two British nationals, Shaun Pinner and Aiden Aslin, as well as Moroccan Brahim Saadoun, for participating in combat actions in Ukraine as mercenaries. The DPR’s Prosecutor General’s Office earlier said that testimony obtained from Pinner, Aslin and Saadoun proved their involvement in crimes such as forcible seizure of power and mercenary activities.
