MOSCOW, July 10. /TASS/. The Kremlin is positive about the removal of restrictions on the Telegram messaging service, Russian Presidential Spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters.

"Under existing legislation, Telegram operates freely in Russia," he pointed out. "We are pleased about that," he added.

According to Peskov, the Kremlin is also positive about Telegram’s participation in events and discussions dedicated to the industry, particularly those organized by the government.

The Kremlin spokesman added that the industry’s development was one of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s top priorities. "When the most talented and successful participate in debates in this area, it benefits us all," he said.

In April 2018, Russia’s telecom watchdog imposed a ban on Telegram, which was lifted in June 2020. According to the watchdog, the move was coordinated with the Prosecutor General’s Office. There are about 30 mln Telegram users in Russia.
