Russian private space tourism firm mulls super-light rocket project

CosmoCourse is developing a reusable spacecraft for suborbital tourist flights

MOSCOW, February 10. /TASS/. Russia’s CosmoCourse private space tourism company is looking into the possibility of designing a super-light space rocket if there is a demand for it, CosmoCourse CEO Pavel Pushkin has told TASS.

"Since the suborbital project [to create a reusable spacecraft for suborbital tourist flights] has slowed down, we are looking into the possibility of designing a super-light rocket," Pushkin said.

"If there is a market for this rocket, then this project might be promising, and we will participate. We are now looking for customers, and some progress has already been made, although I won’t speak of anything serious as of yet," he added.

CosmoCourse is developing a reusable spacecraft for suborbital tourist flights. The spacecraft is expected to climb to an altitude of 200 km above Earth during a 15-minute flight, which will make it possible to consider the crew members as the persons who have traveled in outer space. The International Aviation Federation (FAI) defines its lower boundary at an altitude of over 100 km.

CosmoCourse is going to build its own spaceport in the Nizhny Novgorod Region in the Volga area for the launch of its spaceships.
