Russia initiates space discussion at UN to mark 60th anniversary of Gagarin’s flight

Some 100 mln rubles ($1.3 mln) will be allocated from the budget of Russia’s state space corporation Roscosmos for arranging the event

MOSCOW, January 19. /TASS/. Russia plans to hold a discussion on history and prospects of developing manned programs at the United Nations’ space committee, according to a schedule of key events in 2021 on preparing for and celebrating the 60th anniversary of the first spaceflight by Yuri Gagarin.

Russia expects to hold a panel discussion with the participation of cosmonauts and astronauts on historic aspects and prospects of developing manned programs, according to the document.

Some 100 mln rubles ($1.3 mln) will be allocated from the budget of Russia’s state space corporation Roscosmos for arranging the event.

On April 12, the world celebrates Cosmonautics Day. This year marks the 60th anniversary since Soviet cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin became the first human to journey into outer space onboard the Vostok 1 spacecraft.
