ENERGODAR /Zaporozhye Region/, May 27. /TASS/. Ukrainian troops have sharply intensified their attacks on the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP) and its satellite city of Energodar after the Victory Day ceasefire declared by Russia, ZNPP Director Yury Chernichuk has told TASS.
"Following the Victory Day ceasefire, the situation has indeed escalated sharply. The number of attacks reached its peak, both in terms of artillery shelling attacks and drone activity," he said. "Pressure is mounting on the civilian population and on the power plant’s staff members, who are doing their job."
Russia declared the Victory Day ceasefire on May 8 and 9. Later, with the US mediation, the ceasefire was extended until May 11, enabling the ‘1,000 for 1,000’ prisoner swap to take place over that period. Russian forces strictly observed the truce. However, Russia registered 30,383 violations on the part of Ukraine.
