Russian State Duma eyes pressing UN to investigate Nord Stream blasts, says senior MP

On September 27, 2022, Nord Stream AG reported an "unprecedented damage," which occurred on three Nord Stream pipes a day earlier

MOSCOW, February 14. /TASS/. The Russian State Duma Committee on International Affairs is readying a draft statement, which includes a call urging the UN to investigate the explosions along the Nord Stream pipeline and bring the perpetrators to justice, Committee head Leonid Slutsky said on his Telegram channel Tuesday.

"The State Duma Committee on International Affairs is preparing a State Duma draft statement, in which the deputies intend to press the UN, first and foremost, to launch an investigation, provide a legal assessment of this monstrous sabotage against the Nord Stream pipelines and bring the instigators and perpetrators of this crime, which has endangered Eurasia’s security, to justice," the lawmaker said.

Previously, State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin ordered the Committee to put together a statement for the UN. According to the article, published by veteran US reporter Seymour Hersh last week, the explosive devices under the pipelines were planted by US Navy divers last year, under the cover of the BALTOPS exercise. The article claims, citing an unnamed source with direct information about the operation, that the decision was made by US President Joe Biden and his foreign policy team. White House National Security Council Spokeswoman Adrienne Watson lashed out at Hersh’s bombshell report, calling it utterly false and pure fiction.

On September 27, 2022, Nord Stream AG reported an "unprecedented damage," which occurred on three legs of the Nord Stream pipelines a day earlier. On September 26, Swedish seismologists registered two explosions along the pipeline route. The Russian Prosecutor General’s Office has initiated a criminal case based on charges of international terrorism.
