Moscow-Bissau relations remain good, yet should continue to develop — Putin

Relations between Russia and the Republic of Guinea-Bissau have always been good throughout the formation of the republic’s statehood, now there is much to be done to develop them, Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Tuesday during a meeting with the Chairman of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Umaro Sissoco Embalo.

"Throughout the entire development of the Republic of Guinea-Bissau, its struggle for independence, and after, during the formation of the republic’s statehood, very good relations have developed between the Soviet Union, Russia and your country. And today all of this continues to develop," Putin said.

According to him, "of course, a lot needs to be done for the development of trade and economic relations and humanitarian ties". At the same time, the Russian president pointed out that even now, from the point of view of cooperation in education, "the situation is developing quite positively".

He added that he was very happy to see his counterpart. "Next year we celebrate the 55th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations between our countries, but this is the first time such a meeting between the presidents, the heads of state takes place. We are very happy to see you in Russia," Putin concluded.
