Landslides increase to 29 following heavy rains in Sochi

Most of the landslide-affected areas have been stabilized

SOCHI, December 20. /TASS/. The number of landslides caused by severe rainfall in Sochi has risen to 29, according to a statement on the resort city administration’s website.

The adverse weather conditions in Sochi are expected to persist until Wednesday evening. Torrential rains impacted the coastal areas of the resort, while mountain regions experienced significant snowfalls. The storm intensity reached six points, with waves as high as 4.5 meters. As a result, winter beaches were closed, and thirteen landslides occurred due to the heavy rainfall. Additionally, eight road sections sustained damage.

"As a result of the heavy rain on December 17, a total of 29 landslides affecting roads were recorded in Sochi," the administration said.

Most of the landslide-affected areas have been stabilized. Emergency response teams in Sochi continue their efforts.
