KRASNOYARSK, February 20. /TASS/. At least one person was killed in a collapse at a factory in Russia’s Arctic city of Norilsk early on Saturday, various sources and official bodies said.
Early on February 9, a gallery collapsed at one of the plant’s sections, at the area of about 200 square meters. A total of eight people were working there at the time of the collapse. Four of them were rescued, two managed to get out on their own, two remain unaccounted for. An emergencies source told TASS one of those rescued had died in hospital.
"One person died in hospital, the search for two more people continues," the source said.
Meanwhile, the first deputy head of the Russian emergencies ministry’s regional department, Vadim Sizykh, said the injured were in moderate condition. According to him, the rescue effort continues, with 181 people and 56 pieces of equipment working at the scene.
The Russian Investigative Committee launched a criminal case on charges of safety rules violations that resulted in the death of two and more persons. The Norilsk Prosecutor’s Office launched a probe into compliance with safety rules at the factory. The facility continues its work with restrictions, necessary for conducting the rescue operation.
