ADNOC uses ‘shadow transit’ to ship oil through Strait of Hormuz — Bloomberg

Vessels pass through the strait with their transponders switched off

NEW YORK, May 25. /TASS/. The Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) is transporting oil and gas through the Strait of Hormuz using "shadow transit," Bloomberg reported, citing sources.

According to the agency, the company is resorting to so-called shadow transit, under which vessels pass through the strait with their transponders switched off. Bloomberg noted that this allows ADNOC to continue exporting oil, petroleum products, and liquefied natural gas despite heightened tensions in the region.

According to Bloomberg’s sources, the company is allegedly using vessels linked to logistics operator Navig8 and chemical company Wanhua Chemical Group. After passing through the Strait of Hormuz, the cargoes are transferred to other ships off the coast near the ports of Fujairah in the UAE and Sohar in Oman, or directed to ports in India.

Bloomberg emphasized that other Middle Eastern oil producers are also attempting to maintain supplies through the strait, though most of them depend on leased tankers and the caution of shipowners.
