BRUSSELS, April 3. /TASS/. The European Union does not intend to take any measures to stop imports of Russian liquefied natural gas (LNG) this year, the Financial Times (FT) newspaper reported, citing European Commissioner for Energy and Housing Dan Jorgensen.
In an interview with the publication, Jorgensen confirmed his position that there will be no changes in EU legislation aimed at ending LNG imports from Russia in 2026, the paper said.
In order to secure additional energy supplies, the European Commissioner recommended that member countries turn to the United States and other partners operating on the free market.
Russian LNG supplies to the EU reached a historic high in March amid the suspension of shipments from the Middle East due to the military conflict, according to TASS calculations based on data from the European think tank Bruegel.
The EU’s imports of Russian LNG in the first quarter amounted to around 6.8 bln cubic meters (bcm) compared to 5.7 bcm in the same period last year. Specifically, in March, Russian LNG was supplied to Europe in the amount of 2.46 bcm, which is an all-time record.
