ARKHANGELSK, October 9. /TASS/. Participants in the "Promoters" track of the Polyus Forum for young scientists developed concepts for a film about the Russian Orbital Station, films about Arctic explorers for the Nauka Channel, as well as a popular scientific tourist route in the Arkhangelsk Region, the track's leader, Director Anastasia Lomakina, told TASS.
"We have 12 teams: four cases, each having three teams. We have brought together young people with completely different backgrounds: someone is a scientist, someone is engaged in social networks, someone is still looking for directions to take, the audience is very diverse and inclusive," she said.
The Regional Cinema Support Fund invited the participants to create a concept for a short documentary about the technological future. One group wanted to develop the idea of a film about the Russian space station, due to be launched soon. They propose to tell about the project through the story of Olga Starinova, a scientist in aircraft dynamics and piloting.
"We want to show through a human history how an orbital station is created and launched. Our character is Olga Starinova, Doctor of Technical Sciences, professor," said Ksenia Zakharova, a historian at the Institute of History of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences (Novosibirsk). "She is like a metaphor for life on Earth, a woman as the originator of life. Space is vital for humans on Earth, because it is in space that we can create unique conditions for vital experiments that may improve human life on Earth." The authors believe that such an example may inspire girls and women to work in engineering, including in relation to space.
Scientific tour in the Arkhangelsk Region
Another area for the track participants is to develop popular science tour routes for the young and active. The forum participants suggest combining education and entertainment. "We have come up with an interesting concept based on an expedition. So, it will be a scientific block, but at the same time we do not forget that we are dealing with tourism and recreation, so 50% is entertainment," said Ksenia Pavlova, a student at Moscow Pedagogical University. "In Arkhangelsk, we definitely visit the [open-air museum] Malye Korely and offer chasing the northern lights. We've seen the northern lights in Arkhangelsk, I've never seen them anywhere before, it's such an attraction for Arkhangelsk."
That would be rather a winter option, and for summer the young scientists suggest going to islands, where onboard the ship tourists could listen to lectures on various subjects.
The track participants discussed how young scientists could attract funding from businesses. They have come up with the idea of a common platform where researchers and businesses could find each other.
Best concepts will be finalized after the forum, the track leader said. During the event, the participants gained skills in how to present their ideas and developments.
"We are developing project ideas that may be implemented with proper financing and technical support. We teach the young people how to package their ideas so that further on, when they step outside the forum, they could present a ready-made, formulated, and funded project," she added.
