Russian stock market declines at start of main trading session

According to data as of 10:00 a.m. Moscow time, the MOEX Index was down 0.81% at 2,889.01 points, and the RTS Index likewise fell 0.81% to 1,133.49 points

MOSCOW, August 29. /TASS/. The Russian stock market opened Thursday’s main trading session with declines in its key indices, while the yuan strengthened in early trading.

According to data as of 10:00 a.m. Moscow time, the MOEX Index was down 0.81% at 2,889.01 points, and the RTS Index likewise fell 0.81% to 1,133.49 points. The yuan-to-ruble exchange rate at the opening of trading on the Moscow Exchange rose by 4.3 kopecks from the previous session’s close, reaching 11.281 rubles.

By 10:15 a.m., the MOEX Index had deepened its losses to 2,886.52 points (-0.9%), while the RTS Index stood at 1,132.51 points (-0.9%). At the same time, the yuan’s gains moderated slightly to 11.2805 rubles (+4.25 kopecks).

Since June 13, 2024, the Moscow Exchange has suspended trading in the US dollar and the euro following US sanctions imposed against it and the National Clearing Center. To determine the ruble exchange rates for the dollar and euro, the Bank of Russia relies on bank reporting and data from over-the-counter transactions.
