All wells at Hainan's Shenhai-1 drilling platform are operational

This field's proven natural gas reserves exceed 150 billion cubic meters

HAIKOU, China, June 26. /TASS/. China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC) announced the commissioning of another well at Shenhai-1 (also known as Deep Sea No. 1), China's first self-developed deepwater offshore gas field located southwest of Hainan Island, the Hainan Daily newspaper.

According to the publication, this means that all 23 gas wells at the field are now complete. The maximum total production volume is approximately 15 million cubic meters of natural gas per day, making the Shenhai-1 field the largest offshore gas field in China.

The Shenhai-1 project began four years ago and was carried out in two phases. The first phase was completed in June 2021, and the second phase will be completed on June 25, 2025. Proven natural gas reserves at the field exceed 150 billion cubic meters. The field's maximum underwater depth is 1,500 meters, and the depth of the wells reaches 5,000 meters. This is the most complex offshore natural gas production project that China has independently implemented to date, and it represents a significant milestone in the country's energy infrastructure development.

Shenhai-1's annual natural gas production is expected to exceed 4.5 billion cubic meters. This gas can be supplied to industrial consumers through onshore terminals in Hong Kong, Sanya, and Zhuhai, as well as a number of other terminals in Guangdong and Hainan provinces.
