Lavrov highlights logistical advantages for EAEU members and partners

The Russian foreign minister underscored that the EAEU operates on principles of equality and mutual benefit

MOSCOW, April 2. /TASS/. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov emphasized the natural geographical transport and logistics advantages available to members and partners of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU).

"In general, the Eurasian Economic Union and its partners - including ASEAN as an organization, as well as the EAEU itself, ASEAN, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, and several other entities across the Eurasian continent - are using the natural geographic advantages of transportation and logistics by developing contacts among themselves, while the largest and richest natural resource continent in the world is interested in the countries of Eurasia benefiting from the development of these natural resources, from the implementation of infrastructure projects," he said.

"This, in turn, is shaping what we call the Greater Eurasian Partnership. If we draw a parallel to security matters, it is becoming the foundation of a security architecture spanning the entire Eurasian continent," he added.

The Russian foreign minister underscored that the EAEU operates on principles of equality and mutual benefit. "This stands in stark contrast to the tariff wars currently unfolding between the United States and virtually all of its partners, including the European Union. It also contrasts with the blatant and crude abuse of reserve currencies, which raises the question of finding alternative mechanisms for economic cooperation through the banking and financial system. Moreover, it diverges from the illegal unilateral restrictions that the West has essentially turned into its sole negotiating tool in trade and economic matters. None of this exists within the Eurasian Economic Union, which, as I have said, functions on the solid principles of mutual benefit, mutual respect, and the pursuit of a balance of interests," Lavrov concluded.
