New Rostec technology enables aircraft to land on drifting ice

This innovation will be of great use in remote regions that have a harsh climate, as it will allow aircraft to land on "unprepared" surfaces with much more confidence, Rostec noted

MOSCOW, February 6. /TASS/. High Precision Weapons, a subsidiary of the Rostec group, has unveiled an innovative landing system which helps small aircraft to land even on drifting ice at the NAIS-2025 exhibition.

"It [the system] will help small aircraft land safely, including in severe weather. The compact design of the system will make it possible to turn any flat surface, even drifting ice, into an airstrip," the company said.

This innovation will be of great use in remote regions that have a harsh climate, as it will allow aircraft to land on "unprepared" surfaces with much more confidence, Rostec noted.

The system consists of two interacting units. The first one is integrated with aircraft avionics. The second one is deployed on the ground on special tripods. The system is very precise. It determines aircraft coordinates in the preset direction with an accuracy of up to one meter.
