Russia and Kazakhstan may expand their energy cooperation in near future — Putin

The head of state also named another traditional areas of cooperation between Russia and Kazakhstan which include space and high technology

ASTANA, November 28. /TASS/. Energy is one of the traditional areas of cooperation between Russia and Kazakhstan, and in the near future the two countries can expand nuclear energy cooperation, Russian President Vladimir Putin said answering questions from journalists.

"As for energy projects, right now, expansion of [Russian-Kazakh] nuclear energy cooperation is possible, since we are already working together," he said, recalling that Kazakhstan is the largest uranium producer in the world.

The president also named another traditional areas of cooperation between Russia and Kazakhstan which include space and high technology.

The construction of a nuclear power plant in Kazakhstan was put to a referendum on October 6. The majority of voters supported the idea of building the plant. Currently, the Kazakh authorities are considering proposals from several potential partners for the construction of the NPP, including the Rosatom corporation.
