Russia to speak for creating independent payments platform — Economy Minister

It is reported that almost all CIS members have stable economic growth observed

MOSCOW, December 18. /TASS/. Russia will advocate creation of a special platform under auspices of CIS banks to develop the independent financial infrastructure of the Commonwealth, Minister of Economic Development Maxim Reshetnikov said.

The Russian presidency in the CIS in 2024 will give a new impetus to the association, the minister said. Development of a common transport market and provision of free movement of products within CIS are among key areas.

"Russia will stand during the year of its presidency for creation of a special platform under auspices of CIS banks to develop the independent financial structure of the Commonwealth," Reshetnikov said. "We will continue working on the transition to payments in national currencies. To this end we will develop the system of financial messages transmission, the network of mutual correspondent accounts in national currencies, the exchange-traded instruments for goods in national currencies, and expand the geography of Mir cards acceptance," he said.

Trade remains the basis for cooperation among CIS countries the minister noted. Almost all CIS members have stable economic growth observed, Reshetnikov added.

According to the Ministry of Economic Development, the trade turnover between Russia and CIS countries gained almost 7% and reached six trillion rubles ($66.3 bln).
