MOSCOW, December 12. /TASS/. The number of Russian administrators who have domains with the US hosting company GoDaddy is small, and the company's refusal to deal with Russian administrators will have little impact on the local domain industry, Director of the Coordination Center for .RU/.РФ Domains Andrey Vorobyov told TASS.
Earlier, Kommersant writer Yuri Litvinenko announced on the social network X (formerly Twitter) that GoDaddy will stop serving Russian customers in 2024. "There is no need to exaggerate the problem. The number of Russian administrators who have domains with GoDaddy is limited. The majority of them have long since transferred their domains from foreign registrars, including GoDaddy, to our country," Vorobyov explained.
He also noted that even with all the restrictions, Russian companies are choosing to use national domain zones, so GoDaddy's move will have little impact on the Russian domain industry.
Vorobiev also mentioned that despite issues such as payment limits, many Russian registrars continue to work with international top-level domains, and that administrators affected by GoDaddy's actions can move their domains to them. "However, as a Russian registry, we recommend registering domains for your projects in Russian domain zones (.RU or .PФ), which are more reliable from the point of view of potential sanctions and legal restrictions," he added.
