Russia proud of its development in agricultural sector — Putin

"We will maintain very good potential, 60 mln tons [of grain], and maybe more, we will [supply it] for export to world food markets," the head of state underlined

ASTANA, November 9. /TASS/. Russia has transitioned from an agricultural importer to a major exporter in recent years, Russian President Vladimir Putin said during talks with President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.

"We in Russia are proud of what we have done over the past eight to ten years in the field of agriculture, when Russia has turned from an absolute importer of agricultural products into the largest exporter and ranks first in the world in wheat exports," Putin said.

He recalled the anticipated performance for this year. "We will maintain very good potential, 60 mln tons [of grain], and maybe more, we will [supply it] for export to world food markets," Putin said.

The president stressed that economic relations with Kazakhstan are not restricted to agriculture. The most crucial, he believes, is cooperation in the sector of high technology, which has good prospects and a base. Another key area of collaboration, according to the Russian leader, is education. Putin described education as a real factor in economic progress, emphasizing the need of mutual exchanges in the fields of education and research for the future of both countries.
