China’s coal imports double in Q1 to 101.8 mln tons — customs

In 2022, China cut coal imports by 9.2% to 293.4 mln tons

BEIJING, April 13. /TASS/. China’s coal imports amounted to 101.8 mln tons in January-March 2023, almost doubling in annual terms, the General Administration of Customs of China reported on Thursday.

In value terms, coal imports rose by 63.1% in the reporting period to $13.55 bln, according to figures released on the website of the customs service.

In March, China’s coal imports grew by around 41% month-on-month to 41.16 mln tons in physical terms, and by 34.8% to $5.26 bln in money terms.

In 2022, China cut coal imports by 9.2% to 293.4 mln tons.
