MOSCOW, March 24. /TASS/. Moscow has opposed and will oppose the politicization of energy cooperation, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said at a briefing on Thursday.
"Russia has consistently opposed and continues to oppose the politicization of mutually beneficial energy cooperation," the diplomat said.
Zakharova noted that the current situation in the energy markets was provoked by the United States.
"Experts understand this very well and understand that the rejection of Russian energy carriers will unbalance the global energy systems and harm the initiators of restrictions and consumers," she added.
"I would like to draw your attention to the fact that it was not Russia that initiated the confrontation in the energy sector, we have only been trying all this time to adapt, to pass between the Scylla and Charybdis of the free economy and political restrictions of the United States and still integrate into this global energy world. But recent events from the side of the US, in my opinion, are simply destructive for the whole world and for the energy sector in particular," the diplomat emphasized.
Zakharova reiterated that despite all the difficulties, Russia continues to fulfill its contractual obligations for gas supplies, including its transit to Europe through Ukraine.
The diplomat noted that Russia will continue to implement all energy projects.
"And we are ready, of course, to continue cooperation on traditional and green energy, all launched projects will be implemented, as our leadership assures, including the Arctic LNG project," she said.
""If European partners are not interested in further cooperation, this is their right, of course, but we must be honest and not engage in this strange subversive business, just tell our citizens who and how is destroying their well-being. We will cooperate with those who are interested in ensuring their own energy security," the diplomat added.
