Nornickel plans to commission in 2026 first new houses in Polar District

Presently, the project is at the stage of technical formalities

TASS, March 16. The Norilsk Nickel Company (Nornickel) and its subsidiary Kola MMC in 2026 will commission the first part of the housing block of 2,000 flats in the Murmansk Region’s Monchegorsk, the Kola MMC’s Director General Evgeny Borzenko said during the Nornickel-Live annual video conference.

By having the new housing, the company will be able to attract additionally specialists from across Russia, that could work at the industrial upgrade and at the construction of the company’s Kola Division’s new facilities, including the Bolshaya Med (Big Copper) copper plant.

"We plan to commission the housing in three stages, beginning from 2026," he said. "Those are about 2,000 flats with different layouts. The block will also have a kindergarten for 230 kids and a school for 600 students. Stylobates will be used for sports complexes, shopping centers and underground parking lots."

Presently, the project is at the stage of technical formalities. "We have been making technical work, that is the project itself, the tenders, and the choice of building contractors," he added.

Norilsk Nickel is a diversified mining and metallurgical company, the world’s largest producer of palladium and high-grade nickel and a major producer of platinum and copper. The company also produces cobalt, rhodium, silver, gold, iridium, ruthenium, selenium, tellurium, sulphur and other products.
