SAINT-PETERSBURG, June 6. /TASS /. China's southern province of Hainan is interested in developing information cooperation with TASS news agency and promoting with its help promoting the pilot free trade zone on the island, as well as medicine, education and tourism. This was announced on Thursday on the sidelines of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) by the deputy head of the propaganda department of the party committee of the Hainan Province Wu Bin.
"In January 2019, the Hainan Province signed an agreement on cultural and informational cooperation with TASS, which became a good foundation for our cooperation," said Wu Bin. “With the help of the agency’s resources, we would like to promote our experimental free trade zone, get [Russian readers] acquainted with the culture, medicine, and tourism of the island. We are ready to create a platform for information interaction in these areas,” said the politician.
TASS special project ‘The Island of Hainan: A pilot free trade zone’ is launched both in Russian and in English. Tthe project is divided into seven main sections, including information about the Hainan free trade zone, cultural and humanitarian relations, the cities of the island, healthcare and education, tourism, environment — the diversity of flora and fauna.
As Wu Bin stated, the project's launch is very significant:
"Not only does the project present the island of Hainan, but also is a an important platform for bolstering cooperation within the One Belt one Road Initiative <...> and is a good example of [the Russian-Chinese] information cooperation".
TASS Deputy Director General Andrei Sokolov reiterated the importance of the project and stressed that "the joint initiative will become a link between TASS and the province of Hainan".
The 2019 St. Petersburg International Economic Forum is being held on June 6-8. The forum’s motto this year is “Creating a Sustainable Development Agenda”. The organizer for SPIEF-2019 is the Roscongress Foundation. TASS is a media partner, the official photo hosting agency and the operator of SPIEF’s presentation zones with support from multinational firm EY, and the Foreign Investment Advisory Council in Russia.
