Russian, Chinese, Iranian warships train freeing seized vessel

The warships completed the exercise and returned to the Iranian port of Chabakar

MOSCOW, March 12. /TASS/. Russian, Iranian and Chinese warships trained freeing a vessel seized by terrorists at the Maritime Security Belt exercise in the Gulf of Oman, the Russian Defense Ministry said.

"The sea part of the Maritime Security Belt exercise took place in the Gulf of Oman and engaged warships from Russia, Iran and China. Russia was represented by the Rezky and the Aldar Tsydenzhapov corvettes and the Pechenga tanker of the Pacific fleet," it said.

The warships searched for the seized vessel and commandos jointly trained to free it.

For two days, the warships trained day and night fire from large-caliber machineguns at targets imitating uncrewed boats and unmanned aerial vehicles.

Naval helicopters were also engaged in reconnaissance and delivery of commandos to the seized vessel. Russia engaged a Ka-27M helicopter.

The warships completed the exercise and returned to the Iranian port of Chabakar.

The trilateral Maritime Security Belt exercise was held for the eighth time since 2018. This year it engaged 15 warships, supply ships, boats and combat helicopters.
