SIRIUS /Federal Territory/, November 27. /TASS/. Russia's nuclear potential ensures its full sovereignty, and the United States understands the consequences of its use, said Mikhail Kovalchuk, President of the National Research Center Kurchatov Institute.

"We are one of the few, essentially the only, sovereign country. Because only we can turn America into nuclear ashes, as they themselves write. And in this sense, we have a 'security blanket.’ But we must think about what will happen tomorrow," Kovalchuk said at the session entitled "New Materials and Chemistry: The Most Important Delivery System for Russia's Technological Leadership" at the 4th Congress of Young Scientists.

He noted that Russia should continue strengthening this potential.

"[It is also necessary to consider] what will replace [nuclear technologies] in the near future - biological weapons, or something else," he added.
