Russia successfully test-launches new ABM interceptor missile

It was mentioned that the ABM system’s new interceptor missile reliably proved its designed characteristics

MOSCOW, December 2. /TASS/. Russia’s Aerospace Forces have successfully test-launched a new interceptor missile of the country’s anti-ballistic missile defense (ABM) system, the Russian Defense Ministry reported on Friday.

"The combat team of the Aerospace Forces’ air and anti-ballistic missile defense troops conducted another successful test-launch of a new missile of the Russian anti-ballistic missile defense system at the Strategic Missile Force’s Sary-Shagan proving ground (the Republic of Kazakhstan)," the ministry said in a statement.

As Aerospace Forces Anti-Ballistic Missile Defense Formation Commander Major-General Sergey Grabchuk said, the ABM system’s new interceptor missile reliably proved its designed characteristics. "The combat teams successfully accomplished the task, striking a mock target with the required accuracy."

Russian Aerospace Forces Commander-in-Chief Colonel-General Sergey Surovikin said in an interview with the Defense Ministry’s Krasnaya Zvezda newspaper in July 2020 that Russia was testing capabilities of the ABM system of Moscow and the Central Industrial District. It was reported at the time that the Russian Aerospace Forces would soon receive an upgraded multi-purpose radar station and modernized interceptor missiles.
