MOSCOW, May 31. /TASS/. Russia’s Uralvagonzavod defense manufacturer (part of the state tech corporation Rostec) has delivered a batch of upgraded BRM-1K combat reconnaissance vehicles to Russian troops, the enterprise’s press office reported on Tuesday.
The reconnaissance vehicle has received a combat compartment and has been upgraded to the efficiency level of advanced infantry fighting vehicles, the press office stressed.
"The Rubtsovsk branch of the Uralvagonzavod research and production corporation has carried out work under the state contract to overhaul and upgrade BRM-1K command combat reconnaissance vehicles. The vehicle’s baseline combat compartment has been replaced by a standardized module and its engine, radios and onboard electronics have also been replaced. The vehicle is outfitted with navigation equipment, reconnaissance systems and observation devices," the statement reads.
The upgrade is aimed at raising the efficiency of tactical reconnaissance through broader performance characteristics and firepower of the combat vehicles designed to conduct reconnaissance on the battlefield. The vehicle has passed all running and firing tests under the control of the Defense Ministry’s staff, the press office said.
The BRM-1K upgraded combat reconnaissance vehicle is a derivative of the BMP-1 infantry fighting vehicle. It features armor protection against large-caliber machine-guns, small-caliber automatic guns and shell fragments and can surmount water obstacles.
