MOSCOW, May 31. /TASS/. The May 28 trial launch of the newest Russian Tsirkon hypersonic missile was performed at a maximum distance; this job finalized the state trials for the product for surface naval carriers, a source in Russian military industrial complex told TASS.

"The launch of the Tsirkon at a maximum distance successfully finalized the program of state trials for surface naval carriers," the source said.

TASS has no official confirmation of this information yet.

On May 28, Russian Defense Ministry announced that Project 22350 frigate Admiral Gorshkov fired a Tsirkon missile from the Barents Sea at a naval target at the White Sea some 1,000 km away. According to the Ministry, the missile successfully hit the target, and the flight went as planned.

Earlier, a TASS source said that the NPO Mashinostroyeniya, the developer of the missile, is currently working on a coastal system for the Tsirkon missile.

The missile’s precise specifications are classified. On February 20, 2019, Russian President Vladimir Putin disclosed that the Tsirkon missile can reach Mach 9 speed and has range of over 1,000 km. On August 24, 2021, Russian Defense Ministry signed a contract on shipment of these missiles during the Army 2021 forum.
