MOSCOW, July 31. /TASS/. Warships of Russia’s Northern, Baltic and Black Sea Fleets that took part in the Main Naval Parade in St. Petersburg on July 29 have held planned maneuvers in the Baltic Sea, Northern Fleet spokesman Captain 1st Rank Vadim Serga told journalists on Tuesday.

"Northern Fleet sailors have practiced episodes jointly with the crews of Baltic and Black Sea Fleet warships for the defense of a group of combat ships in a sea passage. The planned combat training measures were directed by Northern Fleet Deputy Commander Vice-Admiral Viktor Sokolov from aboard the missile cruiser Marshal Ustinov," the spokesman said.

The crew of the missile cruiser Marshal Ustinov practiced air defense for a group of ships in a sea passage. Combat teams of the missile cruiser’s Kinzhal air defense missile systems and AK-130 artillery guns practiced engaging and tracking air targets moving towards the ship from various altitudes and directions.

"The anti-submarine warfare episode was practiced by the crew of the large anti-submarine warship Severomorsk using anti-submarine warfare aircraft. Shipborne Ka-27 anti-submarine warfare helicopters took off from the Northern Fleet’s large anti-submarine warfare ship and missile cruiser to search for submarines along the route of the passage of combat ships," Serga said.

During other episodes of the drills, the Northern Fleet sailors practiced joint maneuvering with the crews of Baltic and Black Sea Fleet warships, as well as rearrangement of the ships of a naval group into various types of a route formation.

Russia’s Main Naval Parade was held in St. Petersburg on July 29 to mark the country’s Navy Day. It involved about 40 warships.
