ISLAMABAD, April 24. /TASS/. Pakistan will close the Wagah checkpoint on its border with India as well as its airspace for Indian and Indian-owned airlines, the National Security Council said in response to New Delhi's reaction to the terrorist attack in the Indian part of the disputed region of Jammu and Kashmir.
"Pakistan shall close down the Wagah Border Post, with immediate effect. All cross-border transit from India through this route shall be suspended, without exception. Those who have crossed with valid endorsements may return through that route immediately but not later than April 30, 2025. <…> Pakistan’s airspace will be closed with immediate effect for all Indian owned or Indian operated airlines," the press office of Pakistan's Prime Minister's Office said in a release after the National Security Council meeting.
On April 22, armed individuals opened fire on tourists in the town of Pahalgam in northern India, killing 25 Indian nationals and one tourist from Nepal. The attack also resulted in multiple injuries. The gunmen managed to flee the scene. The Times of India reported, citing intelligence sources, that the attack was carried out by the Resistance Front, the sabotage wing of the Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba radical group (outlawed in Russia).
