DUBAI, April 22. /TASS/. Russia is playing an important role in the settlement of the crisis over Iran's nuclear program and will remain Tehran's strategic partner regardless of the outcome of the talks between Iran and the US, said Alaeddin Boroujerdi, who chairs the Committee for National Security and Foreign Policy of Iran's parliament, known as the Majlis.
"Russia and China are playing a positive role, and indirect talks with the US in no way affect the strategic nature of our relations with these two countries, which are permanent members of the UN Security Council," he said.
According to Boroujerdi, the very fact that Tehran and Washington have agreed to continue consultations at the expert level indicates significant progress in the negotiations.
On April 19, Iran and the US held a second round of indirect talks mediated by Oman to resolve the situation surrounding Tehran's nuclear program. The US delegation was led by US presidential envoy Steve Witkoff, while the Iranian delegation was headed by Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi. According to the top diplomat, the sides reached significant mutual understanding on a number of issues.
The next meeting between Araghchi and Witkoff will take place on April 26, following technical-level consultations scheduled for April 23.
