Israel strikes dozens of targets in Lebanon in response to morning shelling

Israeli military announced it had begun a series of strikes on positions belonging to the Shiite militant group Hezbollah in southern Lebanon

TEL AVIV, March 22. /TASS/. The Israeli military has been ordered to strike dozens of targets in Lebanon in response to the morning shelling of the country’s northern regions, the office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reported.

"In response to this morning’s missile attack on Israel, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and [Israeli] Defense Minister Israel Katz have ordered the Israel Defense Forces to act decisively against dozens of terrorist sites in Lebanon," the statement said.

The Prime Minister’s Office once again placed responsibility for the escalation on the Lebanese authorities, noting that the government of Lebanon is accountable for everything that takes place on its territory.

At the same time, the Israeli military announced it had begun a series of strikes on positions belonging to the Shiite militant group Hezbollah in southern Lebanon. This was confirmed by the Israel Defense Forces’ press service.

Several hours earlier, Israeli forces had detected and intercepted at least three missiles fired from Lebanese territory - the first such attack on Israel’s northern regions since November 2024. Defense Minister Katz placed direct responsibility for the incident on the Lebanese government and stated that he had ordered the military to take retaliatory action.
