BELGRADE, March 17. /TASS/. The Serbian authorities are ready to invite Russian and US special services to investigate the alleged use of a "sound cannon" by the police against protestors at the rally that took place on Saturday, Prime Minister Milos Vucevic stated.
"There was no order to use batons. There were no actions made against anyone by the police. I think the Serbian police has taught us how to control mass gatherings without using force. In order to stop the stream of lies, <…> the government is ready to invite the FBI and the FSB to come and carry out an investigation," the prime minister said when commenting on publications by a number of Serbian opposition media on the alleged use of a sonic weapon against protestors.
Mass anti-government protests took place in Belgrade on Saturday. According to the Serbian Interior Ministry, the number of participants exceeded 100,000. Protests with varying intensity have been ongoing in Serbia since November 2024, when a canopy collapsed at the railway station in Novi Sad, which led to the deaths of 15 people. The protesters hold the country’s government responsible for the tragedy. President Aleksandar Vucic said amid the protests that Serbia would not allow to carry out a color revolution similar to Kiev's Maidan.
A number of opposition media outlets spread footage of the crowd suddenly scattering to two sides of the street. According to them, this behavior was related to the use of some kind of a sonic device by the authorities. The country's police refuted these reports, emphasizing that devices of this type were not used at the rally.
