BEIJING, March 14. /TASS/. Beijing urges safeguarding the integrity of the nuclear non-proliferation regime, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said.
"We should respect international norms and support the integrity of the nuclear non-proliferation regime. While appreciating Iran’s adherence to its commitment to renounce the development of nuclear weapons, we fully respect Iran’s right to the peaceful use of nuclear energy," he pointed out following China-Russia-Iran talks on Iran’s nuclear program.
According to Wang, there is also a need to seek an expansion of consensus and reasonable solutions through consultations, taking the interests of all parties into account. The top Chinese diplomat described the Beijing trilateral meeting as "an important step in the right direction." "We will also enhance communication with other parties regarding the Iran nuclear issue, urging them to show political sincerity and return to talks as soon as possible," he added.
On March 14, Beijing hosted a meeting on the Iran nuclear issue, which brought together Chinese, Russian, and Iranian diplomats and was chaired by Chinese Deputy Foreign Minister Ma Zhaoxu. Russia was represented by Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov, while Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi represented Iran.
